Comedy Central bids #JonVoyage to Daily Show Host Jon Stewart

4th August, 2015

Expect a few tears among the humour and headlines on 6 August when outgoing Daily Show anchor and fake newsman extraordinaire Jon Stewart cranks up his last ever opening monologue on the “Best F#@cking news programme ever”.

The last ever episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart premieres on Comedy Central in the US on Thursday 6 August; the show will premiere on Comedy Central in Africa (DStv channel 122) on 7 August at 21:00 CAT.

As he takes his final bow, Stewart’s last three celebrity guests will be his friends and fellow comedians Amy Schumer (Africa TX: Tuesday 4 August), Dennis Leary (Africa TX: Wednesday 5 August), and Louis CK (Africa TX: Thursday 6 August).

In the USA, the departure of the comedy network’s beloved “skeptical idealist” and “most trusted man in America” has been marked by a 42-day live-streaming marathon, Month of Zen, covering all Stewart’s episodes from the last 16 years - more than 1,000 hours of viewing.

Other guest stars rolled out in the last few weeks to say their adieus have included President Barack Obama, presidential hopeful and former US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Tom Cruise, “Incredible Hulk” actor Mark Ruffalo, “Antman” star Paul Rudd, “Mad Men” alumnus Jon Hamm, filmmaker JJ Abrams and Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough. President Obama, who has sparred with Stewart regularly during his 7 years in office, even quipped that he had issued an executive order to insist that Stewart stay on. Commented Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central Africa, “Jon Stewart’s departure marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in political satire. While we are sad to see Jon go, his departure paves the ways for a whole new era of The Daily Show, and we look forward to seeing a brand new incarnation of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah at the helm.”

After a six week hiatus, new host Trevor Noah will take to the famed Daily Show studio in New York to front “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”, with his debut show scheduled to go live on 28 September (African TV premiere: 21:00 CAT, Tuesday 29 September).
