“Mad”, “zany”, “lively” and “manic” are among the many adjectives regularly used to describe Schoonraad, one of Cape Town's favourite comedians whose earthy comedy is rooted in the widespread diversity of the rainbow nation’s varied cultures. Schoonraad’s latest one-man show, “HomeGroan” invites you on a wildly funny journey into the deepest reaches of his warped mind. Schoonraad pioneered the Jou Ma se Comedy Club, a popular and ground-breaking weekly showcase that is truly benefiting Cape Town culture and the comedy industry as a whole. A popular favourite on the South African Arts Festival scene, Schoonraad’s stage accolades include the “East Coast Radio Ha Ha Comedy Showcase” in Durban, “Smirnoff Comedy Festival” and the “Cape Town International Comedy Festival”.
No stranger to South African television, Schoonraad is best known as the quirky accidental tourist on the hit SABC TV series “Going Nowhere Slowly” and for his role as the whacky protagonist on the popular game show “Crazy Games” for 3 seasons (2006-09). Other TV accolades include hosting a season of the ever popular “Comedy Showcase” on SABC, featuring on Pieter Dirk Uys’s “Evita, Live & Dangerous” and Barry Hilton’s “FunnyYou Should Say That”.
Dillan Oliphant - or as he likes to refer to himself: “the ma se kind from Eldos” - is a vibrant young comic with a very laidback, nonchalant style that’s dry and deadpan but never dull. Oliphant was the proud winner of the “Nandos Comedy Showdown” in 2010 and The Newcomer Award at the 2012 Comic’s Choice Awards and is now a regular on the Gauteng comedy circuit, earning plaudits all round. While his material is based on everyday life, Oliphant’s comedy is anything but every day…
Kagiso Mokgadi, or “KG” as he is affectionately known, is well and truly on his way to becoming a true comedy giant. In a very short period of time KG has moved from being an unpaid open-mic comedian to being a paid featured act. The son of a Sangoma (traditional healer), KG takes his audiences on a unique comedy journey with a glimpse into the “behind the scenes” practices of a Sangoma, what it’s like to have a Sangoma you call “dad” and why he was never able to take a day off sick from school. Popular on the national comedy circuit, KG is a regular performer at comedy venues around South Africa including outdoor music festivals in Cape Town like “Rocking the Daisies”, “Rocking the River” and “Synergy Live”. He is currently on the line-up for the “Vodacom Funny Festival 2012” at the Baxter Theatre.
Mark Banks is one of the most recognised and respected stand-up comedians of his time.
In 25 years of comedy, Banks has created at least one new one-man show each year, all of which he writes and performs himself. Notoriously un-PC and widely recognised for his political satire and uproarious pokes at the rich and famous, nothing and no-one is safe from Banks' cutting humour.
