MBEU “SNOOZE” KAMBUWA WINS “GRAB THE MIC” CONTEST
STAND-UP COMEDIAN MBEU “SNOOZE” KAMBUWA WINS “GRAB THE MIC” CONTEST BRIGHT FUTURE AWAITS STAND-UP COMEDIAN FROM JOHANNESBURG
Take a bow, stand-up comedian Mbeu “Snooze” Kambuwa, who triumphed in our much-anticipated “Grab the Mic” talent competition last night (1 October 2015).
The amateur comedy talent search reached its pinnacle at the Parker's Comedy and Jive, Montecasino, after Snooze, 26, from Johannesburg, defeated seven other contestants in a quick-fire battle of words, wit and nerves.
The competition allowed newcomers to the stand-up scene to flex their comedic muscles in front of an audience and a panel of judges consisting of local stand-up legends Jason Goliath and Deep Fried Man alongside Comedy Central boss Evert van der Veer and entrepreneur Joe Parker.
Said Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central Africa, ‘This win could very well be the first step that will help “Snooze” claim his place amongst South Africa's elite comedy fraternity in future. Snooze’s unique comedic style is what set him apart and is also exactly what this competition is about - finding the comedy stars of the future - something Comedy Central is wholeheartedly committed to. We're excited to see how Snooze’s career grows as a result of this opportunity."
Snooze had only 5 minutes to impress the judges at the Grand Final of the contest, beating the competition due to his unique style, strong presence and an amazing performance.
Snooze took home a splendid “Grab the Mic” trophy plus his own dedicated slot in series 3 of our monthly stand-up showcase, Comedy Central Presents…Live at Parker’s, starting in early 2016.
Snooze beat fellow contestants Nathaneal and the rest after a closely fought battle. All contestants had earned their places in the final after winning a spot during open mic auditions held at Parker’s between January and August 2015.
Comedy fans will be able to see highlights from the talent search and the Grand Final in a five-part TV series on DStv channel 122 starting in January 2016.
