Arnold Schwarzenegger, an Austrian native, moved to the United States in 1968. He began weight training as a teenager and at age 20 become the youngest person to win the Mr. Universe title.

After earning an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin he launched an acting career, winning a Golden Globe for his performance in ‘Stay Hungry’ (1976). His subsequent films included the hits ‘Conan the Barbarian’ (1982), ‘The Terminator’ (1984), ‘Total Recall’ (1990), ‘Last Action Hero’ (1993) and ‘True Lies’ (1994).

In 1990 he was appointed chair of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and in 2003 he entered and won California's gubernatorial recall election. After leaving office in 2011 he established R20 Regions of Climate Action, a nonprofit organization that aims to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
