Pan-African broadcaster Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa is celebrating its tenth anniversary by making its biggest ever investment in content for African audiences.  The network will grow investment in local productions aimed at entertaining viewers from 4 to 40+ across its growing suite of entertainment channels, including Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., NickToons, MTV, MTV Base and BET.

Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, VIMN Africa, “We are excited about our 2015/16 slate of high quality content that will engage our African viewers across multiple genres including stand-up comedy, music specials, entertainment news, chart shows and awards properties.” Key programme launches from September 2015 onwards include:

Comedy Central (DStv 122):

“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” ( Premieres 29 September 2015)

South African comedian Trevor Noah makes TV and comedy history by becoming the first African host of the long-running satirical “fake news” franchise.

“Comedy Central Presents Basketmouth,  Lord of The Ribs” (December 2015)

Comedy Central stages its first ever Nigerian content partnership with Nigerian comic Basketmouth for acclaimed comedy show “Lord of the Ribs”.

“The Comedy Central Roast of…” (2016)

Following the comedic “Roasting” of musician Steve Hofmeyr and entrepreneur Kenny Kunene, who’s next in the Roast hot seat for a grilling by their friends, enemies and peers?  Could it be a Nigerian this time around?

BET (DStv 129):

“BET Buzz” (Weekdays from 1 September)

“Real Husbands of Hollywood” (November 2015 TBC)

Kevin Hart and his gang of dysfunctional “husbands” bring the laughs in the fourth series of this spoof reality series, undermining and lampooning all those classic “housewives” series.

“The Wendy Williams Show” (Mid September 2015)

A brand new series of the sassy chat show starring one woman phenomenon, Wendy Williams.

“Top Actor” Series 2 (Early 2016)

Series 2 of the dramatic reality series which aims to find and nurture undiscovered acting talent.

“#YouGotGot” (Mondays at 21:35 CAT)

A hilarious new prank show in the spirit of legendary MTV series Pranked and Punk’d.  Recreating the craziest stunts and pranks on the internet are host Tol A$$ Mo and his band of “Outlawz”.

Nickelodeon (DStv 305):

“Game Shakers” (October 2015)

Two 12 year old girls start a multi-million dollar gaming company and take on rap superstar Double G (played by former Nickelodeon child star Kel Mitchell).

“Bella & The Bulldogs” (7 September 2015)

Comedy ensues after perky Texas teenage cheerleader Bella unexpectedly becomes the quarterback for her school football team, The Bulldogs.

“Nickelodeon’s Genius” (June 2016)

A fun and entertaining kids’ science and maths quiz for kids 9-13 encourages boys and girls to learn more about these key subjects.

MTV Base (DStv 322):

“MTV Shuga” Series 4 (Weekly from Sunday 13 September 2015)

Compelling edutainment drama is back for a fourth series.  Shot in Nigeria, the six part series weaves compelling messages about safe sex and public health into the lives of Femi, Sophie, Leo, Nii, Princess, Tobi and more.

“Real Talk” (Every Sunday at 20:30 WAT)

Stars hold nothing back in this candid one-on-one interview show in which fans connect with their favourite celebrities.

Other exciting plans in the pipeline for 2015/6 include the creation of brand new themed events for VIMN Africa’s comedy, kids and general entertainment channels, including an international comedy festival (Comedy Central), and a Nigerian version of family friendly festival NickFest (Nickelodeon).
